End of September, 2009 I haven't put an exact date on this update as it's now October as I write this so I'm way behind! But I wanted to get another update into September as there was much progress since the last update. In summary, by the end of September we had part of a roof which was held up by a chunky piece of steelwork..
You can now see how the glazed gable at the back of the house will partly look with the end timber in, although this will be replaced by another bit of steelwork and that horizontal piece won't be there!
Monday 14th September, 2009 Not too much progress on the extension over the last week as Steve's been concentrating on getting most of the retaining wall finished at high level so the scaffold can go up higher. (Scaffold's due tomorrow!). Here are a few shots of the retaining wall and the stone work Steve has faced it with...we really like it..
I've also been busy up in the new bit of garden, levelling it off more and chucking all the smaller bits of stone and rubble down the back of the retaining wall to help with drainage (see pic above). The big boulder that I discovered when the project first started has now been uncovered a bit more..!
There should be a lot of progress this week as the scaffold goes higher on Tuesday and the Joiners will be putting on the wall plate and some of the roof timbers on Thursday! Finally, here's my 'arty shot' of this update - looking at the boulder at the back of the house with the new retaining wall and a touch of autumn...enjoy!
Monday 7th September, 2009 Hello! We've been on holiday for the last couple of weeks so lots to update on. Despite the rubbish weather in Birchover (although we haven't seen it as we've been in a lovely hot climate!) Steve and George have made great progress - we are now well into the first floor walls as you can see from these shots...
I've also been clearing a bit more earth from the top of the boulder and you can now get a better view on how the bedroom and bridge will relate to the boulder...
Downstairs, it really feels like a room now...a slightly messy room...but definitely more of a room! The opening at the end is where the bottom half of the glazed gable will be, hopefully making it feel part of the room - I bet there aren't many views like that!!
And finally, I have set myself a challenge of having one arty shot per blog update as most of these photos are snaps and if you know me/my photography, I don't do snaps! This one is of "George's workstation" while he was having a tea break and I thought it summed up what he does..
